BelleDangles Jewelry Organizer Review

BelleDangles Jewelry Organizer

BelleDangles Jewelry Organizer

I have issues with my jewelry box. I have one from when I was growing up and I have my mom’s. But I hate that my necklaces are always getting tangled up. In one of the boxes there are some little hooks to hang your necklaces on the lid…but they fall off and I don’t like using it.

The BelleDangles Jewelry Organizer solves that problem! I like it. I have it hanging in my bathroom, actually over my soaking tub. It is right behind my sink and since there isn’t room on the wall I would really like to have it on…I had to make due.

Necklaces have little grooves that keep them from getting tangled in each other

Necklaces have little grooves that keep them from getting tangled in each other

There are places on this Classic Model to put all your Necklaces, Bracelets, Rings and Earrings. There are grooves so that the necklaces won’t get tangled. The top shelf can hold all kinds of goodies.

This can also be used to hang purses, hats, scarves, belts, ties…and the list could go on! Use your imagination.

It is really sturdy too! It’s made out of rod iron. There is no flimsy materials here. There is a nice shiny finish on it too.

Christmas Cards

Christmas cards

Christmas cards

Can you believe how fast time goes? Christmas is only 25 days away. OMG!! And Chanukah comes up sooner than that..I think it is 11 days away (please forgive me if I got that wrong.)
This is the time to get on top of your planning, so that you don’t get overwhelmed at all this month has to bring.

If you send Christmas cards:
Get your cards purchased.
If you order them with pics like I do…get your picture picked out to use or get the kids together this week and take that picture.
Places like and do them fast and easy. You can also go to CVS or Walmart and order them over the internet and pick them up in the store.
I have also taken my picture (flash drive or camera disc) to Cord Camera or CVS, Walmart and you can make cards while you wait.

Get your address list together if you don’t have it in a file or address book.
Once you have your cards, put together a small bag with your envelops, cards, address book and stamps.
If you have an upcoming Doctors appointment or you are sitting in your car waiting for kids at school or activities…or even if you are sitting watching TV in the evening. You will have your supplies all at hand to get your envelops addressed and cards written.
Many of you have your addresses online and you print out labels (you can still put your labels into your bag and peel and stick while you wait) , but for those of us that do it the old fashion way…this works great.
I personally love getting the Christmas letters from friends. I like seeing what they are up to. Yes, I am a letter giver myself. I know some people hate them, but I don’t like getting a card from someone I hardly see or haven’t seen in years and not getting a picture or note or letter from them.

Disclosure: I am not representing any companies. The links I mentioned are what I have had experience with in the past.

Anissa Mayhew Needs Prayers

Anissa Mayhew
One of our own is down….in an ICU bed, after suffering a massive stroke. Anissa Mayhew was chatting on twitter just yesterday early afternoon.
This is her last Twitter quote prior to her stroke “Screw world peace. The world needs more bread bowls full of baked potato soup. The peace will follow.” If you don’t know her, that can give you a taste of her humor.
She has it…great humor and great friends. I mean really great friends. I know her, I have met her and talked to her…but I don’t know her like these other ladies do. The blogosphere is a mess right now…crying for her, praying for her and worrying about her. The hashtag #prayersforanissa is all over twitter, avatars are changing with ribbons for her or pictures with her in them…or picture of her “bewbs” (she is famous for them)
There is something really powerful and special about this lady to affect so many others so dramatically. They have rallied around her praying for her, writing blog post for her, gathering up teams to try and help her husband with their 3 children (one of which just celebrated 1 year remission from leukemia) by offering physical help..for those close and for the others donations of gift cards for restaurants and money to help with bills. Wow…..the stories I am reading about her. She has a huge heart and and is causing many other hearts to break as she while she is on a vent and non responsive after 2 brain bleeds.
Her husband is keeping us updated (thank you) and you can see the latest here.
Please do what you can…prayers are the most important, if you can also do something financially the please do.
Here is her husband’s latest update:
Update from Peter, Anissa’s Husband:

Neurosurgeon just stopped in.

We talked about the second bleed.

I mentioned in the past 30 minutes her movement had picked up:

* she was searching natalie’s hand for a ring we think – she was moving her left leg and arm more deliberately
* she was having some facial expressions So, the doctor rubbed her sternum and said her name loud. She tried to open her eyes! Did it again, and the eyes opened wider.
* She keeps trying to reach the tubes and such.

Very encouraging!

Friends in the Blogosphere!

Consumer Queen
I saw a challenge on Consumer Queen’s site and I thought it was a great idea.  She mentioned how busy we get and we many days do not get to check out each others’ blogs.  She took the time,  working full time and running a successful blog to go around the blogosphere and see what 10 other bloggers were doing and I was thrilled she included me in her list.

I am going to do the same and here are the 10 bloggers and what they were up to today. These are friends I have met online and many in real life at conferences, in no certain order.  By “today” I am meaning Monday November 16th, even though it is now 11pm as I write this post.

1) Mommy Brain Reports – Monica has put out her Gift Guide Today…lots of items in different categories.

2) Crafty Mama of 4 – Kim also has her Gift Guide listed today. (Must be the day…I’ve never done one, but thinking I should and will have to get advice from these ladies!!)

3) Plus Size Mommy – Beth has 3 post for today. One for Dove and 2 giveaways, one for Ice Age DVD and the other for Peggy Lutz Plus Size Clothing

4) Blessed Treehouse – Ali has a cute video of her son Henry playing with a golf club and baby Harper jabbering.

5) Skimbaco – Katja has her Land’s End gift guide posted today.

6) Giftfully Simple – Courtney has the cutest picture up telling about My Twinn doll that is designed to look like your little girl. OMG my 8 year old step daughter would love that.

7) The Copper Brick Road – Rebecca has a deal listed on Toilet Paper. (well..we all need that, why not get a great deal?)

8) Everyday Baby Steps – Mary has listed some great deals on TJMaxx Plus Size clothing.

9) Blueberry Lane Photography – Toni has posted the cutest picture of two toddlers…OMG ALL her pictures are fantastic, you can’t just look at one on her blog…you will spend some time on this one.

10) GoodNCrazy – Carissa – A neat post on the definition of Grace.  (cool)

There you have it. This was fun. I get to talk to many of these ladies on twitter, but I don’t always know what is going on with their blogs… try it!   Be sure to go over to the Consumer Queen and sign up and then go blogging and see what your friends have been up to.

Peter Walsh’s Book Review

Peter’s Book – ‘It’s All Too Much’

Peter Walsh's Book Cover

Peter Walsh's Book Cover

Is it to anyone’s surprise that I like Peter Walsh?  If you know the TV show on TLC called Clean Sweep or you watch Oprah then you know Peter Walsh.  He came to the NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) conference in 2008 that I attended. He was a dynamite speaker….funny and very informative too. (cue the picture I took there)

At a book signing in 2008

At a book signing in 2008

I have also been involved with him on a couple of webinars with Office Max.  Ok…now on to his book.

It’s All Too Much is very easy reading and very simple. It helps you to cut the clutter and make your life easier. Of course as all of us know…that is much easier said than done.  But Peter has some great ideas and puts things in terms that help erase the guilt of giving up things that are either “keepsakes, expensive or gifts”.  Here is a quote from his book:

“If you’re tempted to keep something because it was expensive, remember the difference between value and cost.  Value is what something is worth. You spent a lot of money on it.  To throw it away would mean admitting that the money was wasted.  Now you need to think about the cost.  What is it costing you to keep this item? How much space?  How much energy?  What about the peace of mind that comes from having a clean home full of things you use?  You once made a decision to purchase this expensive thing that you never use.  Now, if you keep it, you’ll be throwing good space after bad money.”  – from Peter Walsh’s book  It’s All Too Much.

I love this!!  I have clients all the time tell me something is too expensive and they can’t get rid of it.  E-bay is an option and a few have used it, but usually if we dont’ do something with it right then, it will continue to sit and collect more dust.

This is a good read!!  Here is the link on Amazon

Disclosure: I bought and paid for this book with my money and was not asked to write a post nor did I receive any payment for the post or the link.

Organizing for Thanksgiving Dinner

Our Thanksgiving Gravy Bowl. Isn't it fun?

Our Thanksgiving Gravy Bowl. Isn't it fun?

Thanksgiving can be a time of stress but shouldn’t be. It should be a time of family fun and everyone coming together to eat a wonderful meal. Of course it is all to help us remember and realize how thankful we need to be for everything we have.

There are many this Thanksgiving who have lost their jobs, lost family members or are fighting life threatening illnesses. Along with our thanks we need to pray for them.

Enjoy your family, make amends if things are problematic and have a fun day together. To help make your day come off without a hitch planning ahead is essential.

Here is my list of To Do’s that may help you in keeping your cooking/planning stress down so that you can enjoy what is most important on Thanksgiving: Family and Friends
1) Make a list of who is coming to your meal.
2) Plan the menu. Make note of what days you are going to prepare each item.
3) Make a grocery list from the menu.
4) Check what you have to see what you need to buy.
5) Plan your grocery shopping day, making sure you have time for thawing of your turkey or premaking dishes. (Good  idea to make room in your refrigerator by cleaning out the old left overs, so you have room for all the food).
6) Do your shopping.
7) Try to clean your house in preparation the day before you have to do your cooking so you don’t over load yourself. Have your kids and husband help if possible.
8) Start your cooking, making sure you have storage space for the food. (Plastic bags can store many things including sauces. Just seal tight and lay can add many layers of food in a small space.)
9) Plan your Thanksgiving day cooking so that everything finishes about the same time.
10) Clean as you go and you won’t have as many dishes to wash after dinner.

Personally I am one that does the basic clean up to make room to get pies out and served, but I have no problem letting dishes set until after all my family/company has left. I would much rather spend time visiting with them while they are here than being up to my elbows in suds in the kitchen.

Eat lots of turkey, take that walk after the meal and enjoy family!

(this is a revised version of post from last year.)

Cocktails with Genesis Today Juice

Concoct A Cocktail with Genesis Today Juice

Genesis Today is such a fun company. They want to create some excitement about their super juices and we thought it would be great to have some fun with all of you…creating recipes. There are 5 different blogs with contest running, but my contest isn’t just any recipe…..I get the Cocktails!! (yippee)

So get out your blenders, ice, glasses and any combination of party, cocktail or punches made with alcohol that you would like to make up. If you would like to participate but would prefer not to use alcohol in your drinks, at the bottom of the list you will find another contest with non-alcoholic drinks to enter.  Have some fun experimenting on how you can make either Resveratrol, Acai or Goji berry Genesis Today juices into a cocktail that you will be happy to serve at your next evening get together.

Be sure to also check out Genesis of a Great Idea site to enter your social media idea and possibly win $10,000!!  If you are one of the top 5 ideas chosen you will get to travel to Austin, TX and see the headquarters and meet Dr. Lindsay Duncan.  I will also be going to Austin, TX (so I’ll get to meet you too!) The panel will chose between the top 5 ideas and the winner will receive $10,000 and will help to implement their idea. The other 4 people will still win their free trip and $1,000 each.  (The Genesis of a Great Idea contest ends Nov. 15th at MN CT – so enter ASAP!!)

Genesis Today promotes health and wellness with their juices.  They do not promote alcohol consumption as a source of health and wellness. But if you are going to have a cocktail party then using one of the Genesis Today juices as a mixer in your drink is a healthier drink than without it. So we thought we would add this category as something fun and playful.

(Any contest mentioned are closed now)

Sears Hometown Stores’ Food Drive

The Sears Hometown Stores are holding their 4th annual food drive. These food drives will benefit the local communities that store is located in. The one that is closest to me is the Mt. Vernon, Ohio store. The food collected will either go to the Mid Ohio Food Bank for Knox county or it will go to local food pantries in that area throughout the months of November and December.
food drive - hometown stores
The Mt Vernon Sears Hometown Store will receive donations of canned and boxed non-perishable food items November 8 through December 31.
To find a store nearest you go to Sears Hometown Stores. (There are about 950 of them)
In the past 3 years they have collected more than 250,000 non-perishable food items throughout these stores.
food drive - HT Store #3018 Riverton, WY
Here is a quote from the press release I received:
“We welcome the opportunity to host this event again,” said Marty Kozar, CMO/DVP for
Sears Hometown Stores. “We feel privileged to join in a local effort to lend a hand to those
experiencing hardship in our communities, and want to encourage our customers to open their
hearts and their cupboards to this initiative.”
You can donate non-perishable canned and boxed food, cleaning, diapers and paper products in the donation boxes at your local Sears Hometown store during business hours.
**Now here is the bonus – For being so generous and helping others, Sears is going to help you. You will get a discount off your bill. How great is that? Thanks Sears.

If you do not live near a Sears Hometown Store you can make your donations (cash or food) to your local food pantry.

Disclosure: Sears Hometown Stores have provided me with information for this article. They have not paid for this post nor given me any form of compensation for this post.

Passing down Clothes – That’s being Green too!

Do what do you think? Do I have pass down ability here? LOL

Do what do you think? Do I have pass down ability here? (and I am short 2 kids in this pic) LOL

I love getting a call from a dear friend of mine saying, “Sandy – I have gone through the kids things and I have 2 big bags of clothes for your triplets!” It’s like Christmas time going through the bags to see what will fit and what we can use.

Not everything fits or will work, and if we can’t use it I pass it on. I have a couple girls that I work with that have children who I pass the triplets clothes and toys down to. If it isn’t something they can use, I take it to the Goodwill store that is in my town.

My older boys clothes go into a bin that are labeled and I save those for the triplets. (at least the boys)

Personally, I do not keep most of it for garage sales. I do not want to store things through the year waiting for a garage sale to make .25 off a shirt. I would rather give it to someone that I know who can really use it for free, or second best give it to Goodwill. I know someone has to buy it from there, but it is out of my house and I have my space back. Garage sales aren’t bad, if you have the space to store the things until you have it.

I have no problem looking at garage sales for clothes to fit the kids. I am not too proud to use hand me downs or buy clothing at a garage sale. These kids grow fast and aren’t in them more than a season. I wish I could afford to always buy them new, but I am practical and even if I could afford to buy them the best of clothing….it makes sense to reuse things. Recycle…be green with clothes too.

Creative Memories Story Book Creator Plus Review

Dave and Sandy 2009 - Page 015

I made this photo layout from the Creative Memories Story Book Creator Plus Software.  It was funny, my husband saw it on my site and asked how in the world did I do that?  I was very pleased with how it turned out. This software can make story books, pages for your scrapbook that you can print out, desktop wallpaper for your computer screen, greeting cards, photo gifts etc.

This program was not hard to use.  Basically you pick what you want to work on, rather a storybook or single page etc. and then you pick your template. It comes loaded (besides, plain, black or white with 2 predesigned packages. You can purchase more if you would like.  The one above was from an additional package  called Beautifully Blended Predesigned pages for 12×12. You load your pictures in (which is really fast…that impressed me) and they show up on the right hand side. Drag and drop into the different slots.  The basics.

Now…you can crop, add embellishments and do all kinds of fancy things.  I have to admit that I didn’t have the time to really dive into learning all of that, but it doesn’t look like it would be too hard to do.

Step 1 Chose your what you want to do on left & then pick your templates

Step 1 Pick what you want to create on left. Then pick the package you want to do it with.

Your package of pages will open on the right. Pick which one you want to start with.

Loading your pictures is really easy and they load super fast!

I used to sell Creative Memories and LOVE scrapbooking, but have not done any of the digital scrapbooking until Creative Memories came to Type A Mom Conference. They gave us this software and I was more than thrilled to try it out. The layout that my picture was done in is actually one that is not in this software package but can be ordered separately.

Oh….and just so you know how easy this really is….my first page (above) that I ever did I won an award on the Creative Memories site for Best use of Color. Isn’t that cool?

Stay tuned…I will be learning how to digitally organize photos too!!

The one negative I just learned was that it is not mac friendly! I am getting a mac this week so that really bummed me out! But they are hoping by next fall it should be.

Full Disclosure: Creative Memories gave me this software and the additional package that created this page without charge. I was not paid to do this post.

Walmart Gives Back!

November 9, 2009 by

This is a picture of their web page I took with my camera.

This is a picture of their web page I took with my camera.

Walmart is a massive company. They don’t have to do anything to help others….but guess what? They are. The Walmart Gives Back Holiday Campaign this holiday season is giving $32 million. There are several things they are doing….Check them out!
Here is a video that shows the big kick off.

Walmart (foundation) has provided 35 refrigerated trucks to bring food to 35 different food banks across America. That is a lot of food people! There will be Walmarts Great Value products along with fresh apples. This will provide families with food to prepare their Thanksgiving meal. Something that so many of us take for granted. Watch the video of some of the people this helps. There are so many people that depend on these food banks to feed their families. Most of them are just having tough times due to this economy. We all hope that we never have to use a food bank ourselves, but I’m sure all those who are now depending on them….used to feel the same way. Thank goodness there are companies as generous as Walmart Foundation to help.
I support Walmart's Holiday Giving 2009
They are also donating a $2.2 million grant to help fund 140 Meals on Wheels member programs across the nation that serve seniors. Wow! I have seen how these programs help many people. I was organizing a client and she had a husband who was disabled by a stroke. She was soooo thankful for the Meals on Wheels program. She worked full time and they came in once a day and provided her husband with a meal that he would have been unable to get himself while she was gone. That is just one family of millions that this program has helped.

Walmart is really impressing me. Not only are they doing all of the above, but they are working with the Military families and they are having the Salvation Army Bell Ringers back to their stores this holiday season.
Thanks Walmart!!

Disclosure: As part of the More Than Eleven Moms Group, Walmart provides me with news and company  information that you will see in this blog post.

White trash bags for Donate help to keep them separate from black bags for trash

White trash bags for Donate help to keep them separate from black bags for trash

Many people have trouble letting go of things…I realize this, but I also realize that there are times that it helps to think of others and that can help you to “release” an item.

Holding on to “things” that are packed in a box in the basement, or sitting on the back of that top shelf in your family room (where you can’t even see it) and gathering dust are not helping you in any way.

Look at that item (as you dig it out of those hiding places and it sees the light of day for the first time in years) and decide:

1) Am I using it?
2) Is it making this space a better place?
3) Can I enjoy it where it is?
4) Do I like it?

If you can’t answer “yes” to all of these, then maybe it is time to pass that item onto someone who will use it, will enjoy it and likes it.

Seasonal Clothes

The Dreaded Winter from Summer clothes change out

double closet hanger
I have to admit that getting all the bins of winter clothes out of the basement and doing that seasonal clothing switch is not my idea of fun. But we did it this last weekend and I am glad it is over for the season. Here are some tips to make it go smoother for you.

Summer Clothes coming out of their drawers and closet:

1) Do you think it will fit next year? (all you can do is guess)
2) Did they ever wear it this year? (if they don’t like it, don’t keep it)
3) Is it in good enough shape to keep for next year?
4) Can you pass it down to another child in your family? (if so, keep it)

Items to keep for next year: Put in a clear plastic bin (ideal) and Label it:  with season of clothes and sizes. I suggest keeping boys and girls separate.

For those things that are in good enough shape to pass on, but you can’t use: DONATE IT
Put these things in a white trash bag so you do not mix them up with the black trash bags.

Winter clothes to Go Into their Drawers and Closets:

Bring out each piece and decide:
1) Will it fit them?
2) Do you both of you like it?
3) Is it in good enough shape to be worn again?

If yes for all of these, then put it in their drawers.
If not, don’t feel bad….just decide if its trash or donate.

Tip: Don’t over load their drawers and closets with too many clothes if you have hand me downs. Items will never get worn that are on the bottom or if they don’t like them.  These are things that other children can be wearing. Pass them on.

The Power Shelf Review

November 3, 2009 by
Filed under Products for Organizing, Reviews & Giveaways

This is a power shelf…kind of interesting isn’t it? It is a sturdy metal shelf that replaces your old outlet cover. You just take out the screw and pull off the old cover and replace it with your shelf. You can use it for anything you would like to plug in. Phones work great of course, but clocks, handheld games or ipods, be creative!
I really like the design that there is a place to wrap your cord around the neck of it so that you don’t have those “dangling cords” that you so often have. There is also a little slide resistant pad you can put on your phone or device to keep it from slipping….but I didn’t see a need for it. Mine sat just fine without any fear of falling.
I also tried my little power screwdriver on it and ended up using it for that rather than my phone. I have this outlet in my kitchen and I keep my phone in my office to charge.

The only problem I came across with this particular model was that  I did not have enough outlets at the higher levels where I would want to have my phones. But….they have taken care of that issue. If you look at their products, they have some that are a long neck and you can place them so the shelf is on the top (not bottom like I have it in my pictures) so you can make use of the lower outlets. (Brilliant) This is the Original Power Shelf, they have them for many other purposes; laptops, power cords, ect… and Lynn Fetzer Westmeister also has a new one coming soon that I think looks wonderful…it is for your curling irons and blow dryers!

You can see a review on CBS 2 Chicago TV on it here and also the TV commercial for it.

To Purchase Your Own: Go to Buy Power Shelf to see the products and see where to purchase.

Genesis Today Juices – Do they help?

November 3, 2009 by
Filed under Blog, Family & Friends, Food, Health & Safety

I will let you know right off the bat that I have not been using the Genesis Today juices very long, so I am no expert and won’t claim I am. What I am is a woman who is almost 50 {gasp!} who is seeing the effects that aging is having on me and I don’t like it.
I have tried all 3 of the new juices they have in the Walmart stores. The Resveratrol, Acai and Goji berry juices.
They all do different things….and I have tried a big bottle of each. I know that isn’t much and I know I should pick the one that best fits me and stick with it for awhile to really get a true test…but I am having fun experimenting. (below is the information on each & what they do straight from the Genesis Today Web site)

Resveratrol – Cardiovascular health, healthy inflammatory responses, youthful energy and appearance.
Acai -Skin, hair and nails, Weight control, Energy and endurance, Aging and longevity
Goji -Mood, mind and memory, Eye health, Endurance

The main thing that I have noticed so far, and probable the only thing since I have only gone through one large bottle with each one is increased energy. Is it in my head….I suppose it could be, but I don’t think so.

I am currently drinking the Resveratrol berry juice and really like it.
I have to admit that I haven’t lost 10 pounds in the last month since I started drinking these juices (come on….it has been Halloween and there is good candy in the house!) and I do not look like I have just had an instant face lift because I have been drinking an anti-aging juice…but I do have increased energy and who can’t use that? Keep in mind that I have only gone through one bottle each of the 3 different ones. But I am going to continue with this healthy experiment! I’m excited to learn more and find out what else these juices can do for me. I’ll keep you updated as to my progress too.

Disclosure – I got $25 worth of the Genesis Today juices to try last month. I have purchased the 2 bottles of Resveratrol that I presently have on my own. I am also proud to say that I am helping with the Genesis of a Great Idea campaign, but what I say above are my own thoughts and words (other than description of the juices )
