Onion’s anyone?

044I love onions used in recipes but I hate to cut them ..{tears}.  When I do cut up an onion or part of an onion I like to cut up several at once.  Then I divide them into 1/2 cup servings and place them in individual sealed baggies.  I take several of those baggies and place them in one large one (date it) and place it in my freezer.  I don’t have any problems with the smell coming through with the double bagging (and I also keep a baking soda box in my freezer for odors.

Next time I have a casserole or want to use some onion in a recipe…I just pop out a bag and its ready. No tears involved this time.

  1. I love this idea because I, too, HATE cutting onions. Thank you so much for the tip, smart lady!

  2. Hiya! :)
I heard a tip one time on one of the big cooking shows on how to avoid tears during onion cooking – and BOY does it work!

Just take a big bowl (like one that you mix up cookie dough in) and fill it aboutg 1/2 way with water. Then plunk the onion in, and cut it up under water. The water traps whatever it is that floats up and makes you cry.

I love your cutting tip, thought I’d share one on how to not have cutting them make you cry ;)

Thanks for adding that. I will have to try it. I guess my only concern would be the control you would have under water trying to cut up and onion. But I will give it a try…Thanks!

  4. HEY SANDY,

I do the same thing to my onions. I love stuff like that that speeds meal making up to.
