Exercise – Why is it so hard for me?

by Sandy on September 2, 2010

skechers shoes

I see many of you who are so active and exercise daily.  I know I need to do that too.  When I get on an “exercise kick” I love it, I feel better, I know it is good for me…. so why don’t I stay on it?

Right now I am sitting in my exercise clothes debating with myself about going to Kickboxing class.  I was doing so good about going to that on Tuesday and Thursdays and Yoga on Wed. and Fridays.  I look hysterical in the class…feel like a fool…sweat like no bodies business….but I was still doing it.. knowing that I could look back and say…hey, remember when I couldn’t even kick up past the height of my knee?

Then came Blogher. I haven’t gotten back into my routine since. I had someone who promotes exercise and has her own video series on it tell me I shouldn’t be doing kickboxing. That if you’ve had back problems then it is not good for me to do.

So…I have been told by my podiatrist that walking is not an exercise for me….because of my plantar fasciitis.  I’m being told I shouldn’t do kickboxing…. there are no swimming pools close enough that I could swim for exercise and it hurts my one knee too much to ride a bike….

I know …I know… all excuses..  I need to just do it anyway.  If  something starts hurting too much …then I should stop.  Usually with exercise I don’t have as many issues with my back and neck because I am strengthening all those muscles…and they need that.

So why am I still sitting here?

Follow up….. 2 hours later…..  I made myself go this morning.  It did feel so good.  Guess what….it did bother my back a little. I felt the sharp sting of my sciatica (from your back but starts in the middle of your butt as a sting – I call it a bee sting feeling – and then will cause sharp pains down your leg).   So..I modified what I was doing. If there were kicks…I kept them low, I did crunches instead of full sit ups – and I told the instructor and she helped by saying…Sandy – don’t do this…do this.   So as I sit here drinking my water and cooling off….I feel good.  I want to make sure I go to Yoga tomorrow morning.

Yes….You Can win a Bissell Lift-Off® MultiCyclonic Pet Vacuum!!

Bissell Lift-Off Pet Vacuum

I did this view video a couple of months ago when I first got the Bissell Lift-Off Pet vacuum. I have since been using it for that couple months and love it even more! Especially the lift off feature!

I have 2 dogs. Gizzy doesn’t shed much. You can see her briefly in the video at one point. But Sadie is a major shedder! OMG does she shed! I was amazed and really grossed out by how much hair and dirt this vacuum picked up. Even after my other vacuum went over the area and this one came back over it picked up so much. Thank goodness I don’t let my carpets get this dirty all the time. But I wanted a good result for this video. (LOL..no problem there…there was plenty of hair and dirt to go around).
This vacuum is especially great if you do have pets! You will love this lift off feature to really get to all those areas your regular vacuum can’t go.

To ENTER:

Go to the Bissell Lift off Pet Vacuum Video and tell me specifically from this video (not mine above) what is the % of pet dander, dust mites and other allergens that the HEPA filter catches? This answer has to be included to be eligible to win.  **Be sure to come back here and leave me your answer in your comment. Your e-mail has to either in your comment or on your profile.

WoodHaven Farms

by Sandy on August 20, 2010

Do you like to cook?

You would love this place if you like to cook…..and even if you don’t like to cook but you like to spend some fun time with a group of ladies or couples…this is great.

We normally have our Bunco group on 1 Thursday of the month. But you know how summers are, everyone has vacations etc and in the past it has been hard to keep the group together. So we decided this summer to take June, July and August and plan a different event that we didn’t have to worry if all 12 ladies came. We also have about 8 subs and these events were open to them too.

Woodhaven Farms was our event for August. It is a place (beautiful place by the way) that you can bring groups of people …and cook great meals together and sit down and enjoy them. Isn’t that kitchen great?

Chef Tammy has everything ready for us. The different recipes (appetizer, salad, side dishes, main course and dessert) are at different stations with all the needed ingredients ready. Then we break into groups to work on which ever part of the meal we want to cook. (I picked dessert!!)

We had the appetizer while most of us were still working…so it was a nice little eating break. The same thing with our salads.
Then for the main course (there was also pesto noodles that aren’t seen here) and it was all fantastic!!

After the main course was completed we all got to sit down together, enjoy a glass of wine (we can bring in our own if we want it) and have a great time!

So if you are anywhere near Johnstown Ohio…you will have to check it out!! We had a great time, and I am kind of guessing this will end up being a summer tradition in our group. Several of the girls go routinely here for cooking classes.

Back to School today

by Sandy on August 19, 2010

When do Your kids go back?

Today is the first day of school for my kids. The triplets are going into 4th grade, D is going to be a junior and T is going to be a senior this year. Wow….hard to believe.

This summer just flew by. I remember my Grandmother always telling me that every year will go faster. I can tell you that at age 50 they are going pretty fast already….so I hate to think how fast those last few years of Grandmothers 96 years went!

Are you guys ready for the kids to go back to school? I have to admit that I am. Working out of the house, this summer has been kind of hard on the kids. We did do some things of course, but many days they just played with a few friends in the neighborhood. E didn’t have any problems. She has a BFF a couple doors away. A and Z (9) don’t have any close friends in our neighborhood. They do at their mom’s house…but they are still a little young to take their bikes that far.

This summer was a lot of…no the tv, game stations and computer will not be on today (only on rainy days did I let them sit in and watch tv) …you need to find something to do. Of course I got the…”But there is nothing to do”. I came back with a line I heard growing up ALL the time from my mom, “If you can’t find something to do, I can find something for you to do….there is plenty of vacuuming, weeding and bathrooms to clean.” It is amazing how fast kids can find something to do!

The triplets are at a different school for 4th grade. This is a small town, so it isn’t that far from their other school, but close enough to their mom’s house that they can now walk when they are there. I will still be driving them, at least for the first half of the year from our house. But maybe next spring…they will be 10, riding bikes from here might also be an option at that point.

The kids are all excited to go back…well at least for today. That first day is always so exciting…your new backpack and supplies, your new school clothes…new teachers…seeing everyone in your classroom. At least the first day is fun!

Ewww!  Not fun to think about but true!

I have wondered before how often you are supposed to replace your toothbrushes?  I don’t think I have ever had someone tell me.  Santa always puts new toothbrushes in the kids stockings at Christmas. Then of course there are the dentist appointments, but normally I don’t actually “buy” toothbrushes other than Christmas time.

Where do your toothbrushes end up?

I have gone into the kids bathroom to find their toothbrushes laying in a puddle of water and toothpaste on the counter.
Laying in the sink
On the floor
On the floor next to the toilet!

I do take them down and put them in the dishwasher at that point.  (think about the “invisible nasties” that are on there!!)

Colgate has a campaign going on called Invisible Nasties.  I love it!!  They are the cutest “germs” you will ever see!!

Educate

The purpose of this campaign is to educate us.  And also the kids!  To tell us that we need to be replacing our toothbrushes EVERY 3 Months!  The bristles break down and are not as effective at getting between the teeth to get out all those Invisible Nasties.

They even have a reminder set up that you can have them email you and remind you!  Now that is cool isn’t it?

There is a really cute game on the Invisible Nasties site that the kids (or you…it is so cute) can play.  The Invisible Nasties game is a visual of how those Invisible Nasties can be in your mouth and on your teeth.

Here is a shop I did for #InvisibleNasties replacing our old toothbrushes with new ones.

More check-ins at walmart

My shop was paid for by Collective Bias to replace our old toothbrushes. The pictures and the thoughts are my own.

School Clothes Shopping

by Sandy on August 16, 2010

Buying clothes for 5 kids isn’t a fun chore…..unless…..

We had a fun day shopping and found so many things to try on.  If the kids had their way….we would have spent a lot more money than we did.  lol

I went earlier in the week to check out a Marshall’s store and didn’t have as good of experience.  There were very few choices in clothes.  I had envisioned being able to have a full cart and do like I did do in the video…but there was just not enough clothes that we could find that the kids liked to even try on.  I didn’t feel like I could do a post that I felt good about. Honestly I would not go back for school clothes at that location. Now it is very possible that I just had a day that things had already been picked over.

But….I got a 2nd chance by going to a TJ Maxx instead!  And I am very glad I did.  We had a great day, a great experience and it helped me to realize that I have a new place that I can go for clothes for the kids (and myself!)

It is store policy not to take pictures in their stores.  I did not take any pictures when I went into Marshall’s. But I did have clearance from TJ Maxx and the store manger to take pictures in the TJ Maxx store.  Thank you so much!

These pictures were taken at the TJ Maxx at Easton store 3760 Easton Market Columbus, OH 43219 Phone: 614-428-4930

Winner!  Random.org #20 was Janna from Feed Your Pig Blog. Thanks!

**************************************************************************************************************

Does your phone go Dead at the worse times possible?

If you have a “Charge Anywhere” charger from iGo Green, you don’t have to worry about being left in the “dead zone”.

I received this Anywhere charger when I was at Bloggy Bootcamp in Phoenix in April.  I have used it so many times and have been so happy I had it SO many times.

I had a Blackberry when I got the charger and they gave me the tip to fit that phone. I was very worried when I got my Droid X because I wanted to be able to use it. But the cord that connects my Droid X to either the wall charger or my computer….fit just fine! Yeah!!

I carry this in my purse along with the cord for the phone, so I have it when I need it.  It has saved me on many occasions.  When it has a fresh charge it seems to last about 2 hours.

It has a fold in plug in the back, so you just pop out the prongs and plug right into your wall. So easy and one less cord you need to worry about.

It is about the size of a slim deck of cards and light weight.  Totally worth it!

To Buy your own charger. Go to the iGoGreen.com page and purchase.  You can now get a 20% discount. Use the IGOBLOGGER discount code to get your discount.

To ENTER TO WIN A ANYWHERE CHARGER FROM iGo Green:
