Winner of the Reveal Mop

Random.org #6 is Emma Horton! Congrats Emma

Rubbermaid reveal mop

Mopping made easier

I don’t know about you..but I don’t like to mop.  Rubbermaid has made this chore a little easier with the Reveal Mop. But as we organize, we need to clean. Our floors can get incredible dirty..even if they were clean before we started the job.

Here is a view of the new Rubbermaid Reveal  mop.  Please keep in mind that your mop will come already assembled if you purchase it in the store. It will come with 1 pad and only 1 refillable bottle.  (not 2)

I usually try to do my reviews on the same amount of info that I might have just walking into a store. I like to be “you” if that makes sense and not have all the info under my belt before I do the review. I want to feel fresh when I see the product. But sometimes like this…it can mess up my video a bit because I realize that I may mess up some of the info a bit.  But that is it… only 1 bottle, 1 pad and comes already put together when you buy it in the store.

Here are some “recipes” for cleaning solutions that Rubbermaid provided me with for you.
Cleaning Solution 1
2 Tablespoons ammonia
½ cup white vinegar
½ teaspoon of baby shampoo
Fill the rest with hot water
This solution works well on hardwood floors.

Cleaning Solution 2
2Tablespoons white vinegar
2-3 drops liquid soap
Fill the rest with hot water
This solution is perfect for glazed tiles, vinyl, soft tile, cement, brick, and laminate.

Cleaning Solution 3
2 Tablespoons baking soda
2-3 drops liquid soap
Fill the rest with hot water
This solution is great for unglazed tiles, marble, stone, and slate.

Cleaning Solution 4
1 Tablespoon white vinegar
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
Fill the rest with hot water
This solution also works well on hardwood floors.

Please follow all manufacture recommendations when choosing products to clean your floor.

The pad is made out of microfibers that are ultra-thin. They are 1/100 the thickness of a strand of hair. (wow!) the wide pad reaches further into cracks and crevices to pick up 50% more dirt than sponge mops according to Rubbermaid. This pad also helps your floor to not only get cleaner, but helps them to dry faster.

To Purchase:

You can find the Rubbermaid Reveal Mop online here or at Home Depot. They will be coming to Walmart and Target in August (so start watching your store for it!) .

Winner #1  Random.org # 127 is Cheryl G.

Winner #2 Random.org #106 is Busiemommie

A Rolodex for Your Purse

I love an organized purse and this Card Cubby makes organizing all those gift cards, reward cards, library cards, etc… easy to find.  I know that I had a pile of them in my purse before…and what do you do each time you need one? Yes….you sort through them until you find the one you need. No more!!

The other thing I think is great…what a cool gift for Graduation or a Wedding?  What does everyone give now? Gift cards right? Wouldn’t it be neat to put your gift card in this to give to them?

The Card Cubby has  alphabetized dividers. So you Target gift card goes under “T”. Your Subway rewards card goes under “S”.  Easy to find!!

I have been using one for over a year before I decided to sell them myself.  It has held up great, it has a strong magnet on the front. It is easy to clean if needed and the dividers are a sturdy and haven’t gotten bent up or destroyed.

Here is a video to show you how the Card Cubby works

In Celebration of carrying them in my “store” I am going to give away 2 of them to you!

Joy Berry Books for Kids

**Congrats to the winner Karen Perea of this contest!!

Joy Berry's Clean Your Room Book

Joy Berry’s Clean Your Room Book

Joy Berry has a line of books that are fantastic for children, and of all ages.  Most of them come with CD’s and they start as young as ages 1-3 years. I love these kind of books.  They teach your child when they don’t even realize they are being taught.  Books and pictures stay with them, when those situations come up….then they might remember back to what they heard their mom read to them at bedtime.  I had several different sets of books for my boys when they were young.  I can tell you that they would remember them if someone asked them today.

Here are the series in the Joy Berry line:

Teach me About – Ages 1-3

Let’s Talk About - Ages 4-5

Help Me Be Good - Ages 5-7

A Fun and Easy Way – Ages 7-10

Winning Skills – Ages 11-12

Good Answers to Tough Questions - Ages 6-12

We got the Clean Your room book. Now what mom doesn’t want that for her 9 year old triplets?  They are 9 years old and although they are pretty good about cleaning their room, they picked up some great tips.  My step daughter was funny, as she read the book she saw where Joy is teaching the kids to sort things in their room (like I do as an Organizer) and she said, “Hey..this is like you do it!”  LOL

Boys listening to the CD while reading the book.

Boys listening to the CD while reading the book.

I was a little disappointed that the CD did not read along with the book. There are a couple of songs and some brief discussion on the CD. I had to admit I don’t think we got the value out of the CD for my kids. But, song is a great way for kids to remember and learn things, so I think the value in having songs related to the material is great.

Love how kid friendly this is!!

Love how kid friendly this is!!

But the book is fantastic. I love how it gives step by step instructions with verbal text to explain. My kids used to be confused when I would say top sheet and fitted sheet when explaining how to strip their beds or make them. It is all done in a colorful fun way that will interest kids too.

Twirly Hanger Review

The Twirly Hanger is a nice size rounded hook with different color balls on the end to make it look decorative. You can hang your necklaces, headbands, bracelets and belts (if they fit over the ball) on here and take them off easily.

The Twirly Hanger

The Twirly Hanger

So often when you have several items that are connected (such as a hooked necklace or hairband) you have to pull all of the items off to get to the one you want. The hanger at the top makes it easy to hang, you can even hang it on your closet rod.

Twirly Hanger with my necklaces

Twirly Hanger with my necklaces

I didn’t have issues with my neckaces getting caught up as I decided to get the ones that were on the inside first.

I was able to take this necklace off without tangling it with the others

I was able to take this necklace off without tangling it with the others

I would think with too many necklaces there might be some tangling, but with the 8 or so I had on here…I didn’t have any issues at all. Things aren’t going to fall off because of the inverted “U” shape.  The video shows many headbands being able to be loaded on here.

I think it would be great for children as well as adults to use…

I Love My Quilt!!

campus quilt
I can’t say enough about Campus Quilt Company and how happy I am with this family keepsake.  There are so many times we keep special things…but they are bagged or boxed up and we might see them every several years and have a happy memory for a few minutes…and then repack it.

The best way to honor a special memory is to display those most special memories. Not everything….but just those special few. This is one great way to be able to display many in one spot. They specialize in T-shirt quilts…I just gave them a hum-dinger!
They are very generously giving away a $150 gift card towards a quilt or pillow. (Please keep in mind this will not be finished by Christmas)

The Power Shelf Review and Giveaway *CLOSED*

November 3, 2009 by

005
This is a power shelf…kind of interesting isn’t it? It is a sturdy metal shelf that replaces your old outlet cover. You just take out the screw and pull off the old cover and replace it with your shelf. You can use it for anything you would like to plug in. Phones work great of course, but clocks, handheld games or ipods, be creative!
I really like the design that there is a place to wrap your cord around the neck of it so that you don’t have those “dangling cords” that you so often have. There is also a little slide resistant pad you can put on your phone or device to keep it from slipping….but I didn’t see a need for it. Mine sat just fine without any fear of falling.
006
I also tried my little power screwdriver on it and ended up using it for that rather than my phone. I have this outlet in my kitchen and I keep my phone in my office to charge.

The only problem I came across with this particular model was that  I did not have enough outlets at the higher levels where I would want to have my phones. But….they have taken care of that issue. If you look at their products, they have some that are a long neck and you can place them so the shelf is on the top (not bottom like I have it in my pictures) so you can make use of the lower outlets. (Brilliant) This is the Original Power Shelf, they have them for many other purposes; laptops, power cords, ect… and Lynn Fetzer Westmeister also has a new one coming soon that I think looks wonderful…it is for your curling irons and blow dryers!

You can see a review on CBS 2 Chicago TV on it here and also the TV commercial for it.

To Purchase Your Own: Go to Buy Power Shelf to see the products and see where to purchase.

The original power shelf is $15.95 (plus shipping)  but be sure to check out all the other Power Shelves there are.

Deluxe Cosmetic Organizer Review and Giveaway! *CLOSED*

October 7, 2009 by

007
Ok ladies…this is cool! This is an “A-lister” cosmetic organizer by Lori Greiner. For those of you with oodles of makeup….you need one of these. You will have a great time organizing all your make-up.
It gives you the feel of one of those really nice jewelry boxes (which they also have). It is a heavy and the outside is made of wood. The inside is lined with a washable vinyl.
009
As you can see there there is a top lid that opens up and has a mirror on it.
I don’t have a whole lot of make up myself….so I used the right hand side for some of my basic everyday jewelry.
010
On each side there are 2 swing out compartments. The left has top sections for smaller items along the top. There are slots for 72 lipsticks or mascaras etc.
011 This grid is removable also if you don’t like them. (I love them)
012
This second tray down has dividers that are meant to put your compacts in. My compact was too tall for this to work, but many of the wouldn’t be. Be creative in what you can use this for.
014
Like I said I do not have a lot of make up, so I put some of my jewelry on this side…that works for me. But you can put anything in these compartments that you need to…bottle of concealer, face creams etc.
013
The center bottom sections are open for what ever you need to put in them. I used the one for my compact. If you look on the back wall there are also slots that you can put taller things.
I have been very pleased with this organizer….you can use your imagination in how and where you want to put your cosmetics.  This cosmetic organizer was given to me without charge to review for my readers.  (See disclosure)

To Purchase Your Own

Go to Lori Greiners site and purchase your own for $72.00.

To Win one of your own!

OGIO Backpack

ogio backpack
I have to tell you that my son was sooo excited for this review! He looked at several backpacks that could have been reviewed from OGIO and he picked “that cool one mom” backpack. The OGIO company was nice enough to give us one to review . What I was happy about with the OGIO Mastermind  was that the straps were wide, and heavily padded. He complains every year about his backpack straps hurting and they almost always break before the end of the year. He has over a mile to walk to school everyday and with all of the stuff he always carries I know that he is happy with these straps, as am I.
002
The quality of this backpack is seen from the straps to the interior.
Here is the description of the different pockets straight off the site:
Back panel side entry padded laptop sleeve / Front vertical file organizer / Large center storage area / Power cord and mouse storage / Four large exterior pockets / Neoprene top grab handle / Heavy duty reinforcements / Airline ticket sleeve / Weatherproof fleece lined audio pocket with headphone exit port / Sliding sternum strap / Deluxe organizer panel / Fits most 17″ laptop / Laptop sleeve 17″h x 13″w x 2″d

As you can see this backpack can be used for kids, but there is no reason that an adult could not use this one!

Card Memories – Greeting Card Keeper Review and Giveaway *CLOSED*

August 6, 2009 by
Filed under Products for Organizing, Reviews

I’ll tell you what…some of the great ideas that people come up with! This Card Memories Greeting Card Keeper will solve a lot of problems for those of you who love to keep their greeting cards.

For an organizer…Greeting cards can be one of those…”Oh no…she has all the greeting cards that anyone ever gave her from the time she was a baby” ….moments.
People have a hard time getting rid of them.
What do I normally tell them and what I am still going to stick to even with this product?
Save only those greeting cards that are VERY memorable and that have personal messages inside. If it is card from graduation 20 years before and it was from a friend of your parents that you hardly knew…throw it out! (recycle is best)
But if it was a Mother’s Day card that your child wrote a special heart felt message in to you…then it is ok to keep it.
But here is a solution to the “keeping it” cards!
These albums not only let you slid your greeting cards into a sleeve to protect…it lets you slide your OPEN card into a sleeve so not only can you see the front…you can see and read the inside. So simple…yet ingenious!

She has 2 size albums – Large albums hold cards with a closed dimension of up to 9-1/4″ X 5-3/4″ in size.
Medium albums hold cards with a closed dimension of up to 8″ X 5″ in size.
There are several colors available and they are very reasonably priced. $10-$16.99 and that includes the card sleeves.
I really think these are great! You can keep your special cards protected from damage and be able to look at them anytime you want to enjoy. They are not stuck away in some box in the basement or stuffed in drawers.
To me the only negative I see is that even the large is not going to fit some of those really large cards you get, but the majority of your greeting cards will fit into one of these 2 albums.
The other issue I noticed was that I had a card that had several folds in it (one that stretched out) But I just put it so that the front showed and then the end page where the personal message was written and that is what is most important anyway. So the couple negatives I noticed really aren’t negatives at all.

I would highly recommend these albums if you are someone who does like to save some of your greeting cards, then your can keep these albums on a shelf or place them on a coffee table where they can be enjoyed.

Room Remodel – Painting…oh my!

Room Remodel

We have begun! We are completely redoing my 16 year old son’s bedroom thanks to Walmart. Today is painting! (No..my son hasn’t been sleeping on the floor without any bedding. LOL) We already carted out the the bunk beds that were previously in there. He did share a room with my step son. We have moved Drew down to the basement. {He chose it and is calling it his “man cave”}
We have already planned out the room on paper. We have purchased most of what we are going to use in the bedroom. I have a couple of things on order that Walmart does not have in the stores.

Now for the paint. My sister is an artist. She has such an eye for what looks right. So I consulted with her. We have decided to go with a very dark gray on 2 of the walls. I know it sounds really strange…but you will just have to follow along over the next couple of weeks to see how it is going to look.

Rubbermaid Plastic Food Storage

I have been very pleased with this set of plastic food storage containers.
There are several really nice features that an organizer would have to love.
I think the one that I like the best is the fact that you can snap the lid onto the bottom of the container when you aren’t using it. No more lost lids right!?

If you do that with all your lids you can still stack them like this:

The other option for stacking is just nesting them…which they do very nicely and you can still store lids underneath.

This is the Stay Fresh container that keeps fruits and vegetables fresh longer by circulating the air and keeping them off the bottom of the container. The inside piece also snaps to the bottom for no loss storage.

There are 4 different kinds of containers with lids in this package. There is also this version with the snap on lid and there are the clear plastic pieces that have the black flexible lids. These all have great seals on them so you know your food is going to stay as fresh as possible while in these.

So you get a variety of the different kinds all in one set of 20. Gotta love it!

I was lucky enough to be contacted and asked to come see a preview of the BIA Parade of Homes in Dublin, Ohio before it opened.
I am thrilled to be able to share a couple of the homes with you. What I am so absolutely thrilled with is that most all of these builders are incorporating “organizing” components into their homes. I am going to keep my commentary down as there is so many neat pictures to show! I will give you the links to the info pages on the two homes that I show case their organizing specialties.
This first home is a home by M/I Homes. (Above picture)
The organizational specialty in this house has to be the woman’s closet! I’m not sure of the dimensions to this closet, but it could easily be a bedroom in many of our homes.

These closet doors open up to a mirror where you can see the front and back of your outfit. There are 3 windows in this closet and a chandelier! Keep in mind that these homes are still feverishly being worked on getting ready for judging. So the drawers that should be underneath are sitting on top of the window seats.

The center photo shows looking through the two closet racks.
The man’s closet is dark wood and wonderful also.

Now this is an organizers dream home!! It is built by Romanelli and Hughes and Sarah Schnulo is designer extraordinaire!!
You walk from the garage that Premier Garages have outfitted into the Family Organizing Center….250 sq. ft of pure Organizer’s Love!!

This is the washing center. There is a washer and dryer stack unit in the family organizing center. The main laundry room is on the 2nd floor of this home, so this is just a bonus laundry center. It is meant to be used for those sports uniforms that come in dirty or wet snow clothes. You can take them off before you ever have to go upstairs. (And yes there would be a place to hang a robe if needed).

Directly across from the laundry center is your family command center. Calendars, places to put mail and bills, hook up for a computer…don’t you just love it!?
That is Sarah who designed this area (she is my new hero!!)
If you come in the garage door and look to your right this is what you will see.

Is this too cool or what?

This is where you can take off those jeans that you may have gotten mud on and throw in the dirty clothes hamper. The basket above may have your clean jeans folded in them, or your cloth cubby may hold your robe or pair of shorts.
When you come in from school, the jacket can go on the hook…sit down to take off your shoes and store them in the shoe cubbies and toss your hat in the cubby above.
You can hang your book bag on the hooks at the end of the hall.

Do you know what this is? Do you have any idea? It is a walk through PANTRY!!!
Yes…as you come in with your arms loaded with grocery bags you can walk through and unload them so you don’t have to carry them all the way into your kitchen. This backs up to the desk command center. It is like a big square in design. (keep in mind there were workers everywhere still putting up all the finishing touches on these houses..hence the ladder in the pantry)
I could go on with other pictures and features of this house. There is the storage shelves that are utilized under stairs, built in desk in the kids room. The house is divided into zones. The kids have a back stair case and their own game room with big screen tv and games. Go to my Organizing Blog to see some more pictures of this incredible house!
Loving this house!! Want this house….but for now I will just dream about this house!

I have been given a set of tickets to give away to come see this fabulous BIA Parade of Homes in Tartan Ridge, Dublin Ohio. Please only sign up if you are in Central Ohio and will attend or want to make plans to come and visit.

Mommy Grace Book Review and Giveaway – 5 Winners!!! *CLOSED*

The Mommy Grace Book is for any mom that feels:
1) She isn’t perfect
2) She is messing up her kids
3) She should cook, clean, mother better
4) She needs a course on raising children
5) She is a terrible mother

…You get the idea. This book lets us know that we are NOT PERFECT MOMS and NEVER Will BE…and guess what????? THAT IS OK!!!!
We have God To be in control and that is the central message of Sheila Schuller Coleman’s message in this book.

As mothers we almost all feel we are not good enough to handle this job and do it “perfect” like we feel we are supposed to.
This book is designed to help us get rid of our “Mommy Guilt” by giving us “Mommy Grace.”
She uses really nice short real life stories that are funny and really enjoyable to read.
What I really like is that she showcases that “God designed each mother for her particular child”. Isn’t that neat?

Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Home Book Review and Giveaway! 5 Winners!! *Closed*

Are you a cleaner? I have to admit I love things when they are clean, but even though I am an “organizer” it doesn’t necessarily mean I am the best “cleaner”. I used to come home from school every couple of months to find my bedroom completely rearranged. I always thought it was big fun to have my bed in a new place. I thought my mom was just making my life fun. But she was cleaning! Everything, under the bed, behind the dresser etc. I have to admit…once furniture is in a place in my house, it doesn’t get moved very often! I just do the best I can getting the vacuum underneath the bed.
Mrs Meyer’s Clean Home book is like the book of knowledge when it comes to cleaning your home. She has “No-nonsense advice that will inspire you to clean like the Dickens.” She has all kinds of neat tips and tricks. She takes each area and breaks it down. She gives you the “toolbox” of what you will need for each area of your home. She throws in humor and family/parenting advice along the way. It is cleaning the way we dream of!

For instance on this page about the bathroom sink. On the right hand page with the sink it says,
“Got TOOTHPASTE dripping down the side of the sink? Dab it up with a CLOTH and RUB IT ON your sink and shower faucets to BRIGHTEN them up.”
Ok, right there I didn’t know you could use toothpaste to brighten your faucets. I did know you can use shampoo to clean your shower (Fly Lady), but this was a new one for me.
On the left side of this page she has a chart for the different kinds of sinks and what to use to clean them including, porcelain, acrylic, limestone, marble and granite and solid surfaces.
The book is great ladies. The only way it could be better would be if when you open it she jumps out of the book and cleans your house for you!! (Now wouldn’t that be cool!!)

So what do you think? Is this a book a Professional Organizer would like? Heck yes!!
Anything that will help people to part with things that are holding them back from having the space and life they are searching for is good with me.

What I really like is that this author goes through it with you. You really feel like you are right there with her in her home, going through her living room, bedroom etc… making the decisions on what should go, what should stay and why. It is from a first person perspective. Very cool.

This book is very easy to read and very helpful and inspiring to help you be able to start the journey of being able to part with things that are just taking up space and are serving no purpose in your life.(other than to be clutter in your home)
