Do You Still have a Jewelry Box?

jewelry boxesI do!!  Actually I have two of them.  I call it the double stack!  Why do I have two?  Because one was my mine and one was my mothers. When she passed away I kept it.I do not have a lot of “mom” memorabilia, but I do enjoy having this on my dresser.

Because I didn’t want to take up my dresser space with having both of them separate, and I do not get in them very often, it just made sense to stack them.  Does it look good… no, and that is part of the reason I wanted to take care of it.

What a mess huh?

Here is my other jewelry box, the one that used to be Mom’s.

Step One:  Sort

The hard part is going through and deciding what to keep and what to get rid of. You decide jewelry just like any other item you have to sort through.  Ask yourself these questions:

1) Do you love it?
2) Have you worn it in the last year?
3) Is it broken or un-usable in some way?
4) Is it valuable or costume jewelry?

jewelry

Sort into piles:

1) Keep (You wear it frequently, or at least once a year)
2) Sell, ebay or give to family – Jewelry that you don’t want, but is valuable
3) Donate – things you don’t like, wear
4) Trash, recycle – broken, not worth fixing or selling for gold etc.

Once you have sorted out what you will actually wear (I bet there is MUCH less than you thought) you need to put it back into the jewelry box (or whatever means you have to organize your jewelry)

jewelry boxI decided to give this jewelry box (which was mine) to my step daughter.  I didn’t need two and even though I like how this one is laid out a bit better than Mom’s, it wasn’t a big deal.  I wanted to continue enjoying seeing my Mom’s jewelry box on my dresser.

I put back in the items that I knew I would wear. This is really just my nicer jewelry.

I keep most of my costume wearable jewelry in the bathroom on my twirly hook and other Belles Dangle jewelry shelf.

I now have just one jewelry box on my dresser that is sorted through. I am going to sell a couple things on ebay (hopefully), I gave a few appropriate things to my step daughter and I will donate the rest that is in good shape.

It looks better, feels better and I have a very happy step daughter.

#9 Twirly Hanger

Twirly Hanger – Feb. 19, 2010 contest is closed

Twirlyhanger.com  $9.99

The twirly hanger is still hanging up in my bathroom. I keep most of my frequently worn necklaces on it.  I bet I have at least 15 necklaces on it and I have very little problems with them getting tangled. They are easy to see when I am looking for a necklace to wear for an outfit.. and easy to get to.

#8 Neatnix Stuff Bucket

Neatnix Stuff Bucket – Oct. 18, 2010 contest is closed

Neatnix.com – $16.00

I am currently using this Stuff Bucket in my bathroom. I have my blow dryer in the main section and my most freq. used cosmetics in the pockets.  There are organizers that would fit better in the corner… but they aren’t as cute. I just like looking at cute things sometimes… they cheer me up.

#6 belle dangles Jewelry

belle danglesJewelry Organizer – Nov. 30, 2009  contest is closed

belledangles.com $34.99

I use this daily also.  It is on the wall above my soaking tub. The Twirly hanger is right to the left of it.  This holds my bracelets, scarves and some odds and ends.  It is solid… and I would miss it now if I didn’t have it.

#2 pouchee Purse Organizer

Giveaway Going on NOW (Dec. 17, 2010)

pouchee purse Organizer (see giveaway here)

The pouchee is an awesome purse organizer.  I also sell this in my Organize with Sandy Store. I am also giving a $2.00 discount on the pouchee until Dec. 31, 2010 by entering the code “GiftGuide10″ (while supplies last)  I like it much better than other purse organizers because it has handles that fold down to get out of the way, but also make it possible to move it from purse to purse or carry on it’s own.  There are very few other purse organizers out there that you can do that with.

#1 Favorite Review & Giveaway –  Campus Quilt!

Campus Quilt – Dec. 14, 2009 (Contest closed)

Campus Quilt.com I absolutely LOVE my quilt that Campus Quilt made for me!  They normally do t-shirt quilts (with all your favorite t-shirts) ..but they added some special things in that I requested.  I was able to have them put in squares from my wedding dress (wedding in 2006), my step daughter first Christmas dress (that I got to buy for a little girl ..since I had all boys). My Mom’s wedding gloves and her hankie.. They also made me a pillow from the bodice of my wedding dress.  This is a treasure and a great way to decrease some of that “stuff” in your closet that you don’t really wear, but want to keep… and this makes it special to see everyday!

The Twirly Hanger

The Twirly Hanger

Twirly Hanger Review

The Twirly Hanger is a nice size rounded hook with different color balls on the end to make it look decorative. You can hang your necklaces, headbands, bracelets and belts (if they fit over the ball) on here and take them off easily.

The Twirly Hanger

The Twirly Hanger

So often when you have several items that are connected (such as a hooked necklace or hairband) you have to pull all of the items off to get to the one you want. The hanger at the top makes it easy to hang, you can even hang it on your closet rod.

Twirly Hanger with my necklaces

Twirly Hanger with my necklaces

I didn’t have issues with my neckaces getting caught up as I decided to get the ones that were on the inside first.

I was able to take this necklace off without tangling it with the others

I was able to take this necklace off without tangling it with the others

I would think with too many necklaces there might be some tangling, but with the 8 or so I had on here…I didn’t have any issues at all. Things aren’t going to fall off because of the inverted “U” shape.  The video shows many headbands being able to be loaded on here.

I think it would be great for children as well as adults to use…
