2021 Guide to Choosing the Best Baby Formula

0

Choosing the best baby formula for your infant can sometimes feel like quite an overwhelming task, especially if you are a new parent. Baby grows according to what they consume and not from t8 grow lights, right? Hence, there are two main types of formulas that the majority of parents opt for, those are ‘first formula’ and ‘follow-on formula’. Newborns are started on first infant formulas up until they are approximately 6 months old. This type of formula is made up of the composition to support the baby’s physical development, digestion, and metabolism in the initial 6 months of their life. Infants then move onto a follow-on formula after the 6-month mark.

There are baby formulas out there that are marked from 0-12 months. These types of formulas can be used throughout the entire first year of life. Although, opting for first infant formula then moving onto follow-on formulas seems to be a more popular choice amongst parents.

There are several other factors that need to be considered when choosing the best formula for your baby other than their age.

Consider the needs of your baby

A huge factor that needs to be considered is any allergies your little one may have and tailoring your choice around that. Kids who are at high risk of allergies should be prescribed hypoallergenic formula, where the cow’s milk proteins are broken down into smaller fragments, making them easier for an infant to easily digest.

Babies who have an intolerance to lactose should be prescribed lactose-free formulas, where the lactose that can cause allergic reactions is removed or significantly reduced.

Infants may also struggle with regurgitation, in this case, they should be given anti-reflux formulas that contain special cow’s milk with thickeners that assist in reducing the chance of reflux.

Keep an eye on the ingredients

Baby formulas contain a bunch of ingredients, the main ones you should be keeping an eye out for is fatty acids such as omega-3 and omega-6. These fatty acids provide several health benefits for your little one in regards to their growth and development. They are essential for the healthy growth and development of your baby’s tissues and cells. They also play a very important role in the development of a healthy brain.

Observe how your baby reacts to the formula

It’s important to observe and make note of how your baby reacts to the formula you have chosen for them after trying it for the very first time. If your baby seems happy and satisfied with the chosen formula and there is no sign of fuss or discomfort, then you have made the right choice for them. On the other hand, if you notice an immediate negative reaction or other alarming symptoms from them trying the formula, then consult a healthcare professional immediately. It is just like when to mow new grass and when to cut it. They will be able to determine the cause of these symptoms and advise on the correct nutrition that will best suit your baby. There is no harm or shame in asking for advice and assistance when it comes to choosing the best formula for your baby.
