Our home is said to be an investment that reflects our personality. However, this may not be the case for people who are renting. People rent a property for various reasons. For instance, they may not have sufficient funds to purchase a home on their own. There are also others who are residing in a place temporarily, hence don’t want to waste money buying a home in which they’ll only live for a couple of months.

Still, we always want to beautify our home since this is the place where we’re allowed to fully relax and stay comfortable. Also, beautifying one’s temporary home doesn’t need to be expensive, especially since it’s only a rental.

Thus, aside from visiting sites that offer valuable information when it comes to properties, like The Property Daily, here are some tips to beautify your rental property on a budget, making space reflect yourselves despite being a rental:

1. Paint The Room

Supposed that your landlord approves of changing the interior of their property, the quickest, effective, and cheapest way to beautify your rental home is to paint it. Conveniently, home improvement stores have a variety of paint colors for you to choose from, which means you’ll surely find a color that makes your room cozy.

When it comes to choosing the right paint color, always consider other elements in the room. For instance, you don’t want the rugs or any other furniture to contrast the color of your paint. Doing so may create an unappealing vibe, which may have a negative impact on your comfort and relaxation.

2. Purchase Used Furniture

Speaking of furniture, the other way to beautify your rental property is to invest in some. However, since you’re on a budget, you don’t have to really go for expensive ones. As an alternative, you can always opt for used ones–salvage furniture you find in secondhand shops or garage sales.

Additionally, if you have the relevant DIY skills, you can also salvage pieces of furniture into something aesthetic or turning them into something that suits the overall vibe of your rental property.

By purchasing used furniture or salvaging them, you don’t have to settle for a simple coffee table just because you’re living in a rental property. Instead, with the right research skills and some carpentry, you can surely transform your living space yet still remain within budget.

3. Have Proper Lighting

The problem with renting a place is that it usually comes with basic light sources, like a simple light bulb. Since you’re on a budget and living in a rental property, changing the overhead lights may be expensive and a hassle on your part. For one, you have to call an electrician to talk about your plans of having proper lighting.

As a cheaper alternative, you can opt for floor and/or table lamps, as well as led strips. There are also smart options for these, so you can turn your rental property into a ‘smart’ space, which means you can turn on or off the lights with voice commands or via your phone.

With this option, do note that you may have to shell out an initial capital. However, it’s way cheaper than the total costs of changing the property’s entire wiring system. Not to mention that you can always pack your lighting when you move.

4. Hang Some Art

You can also beautify your property by investing in art pieces. Similar to painting the room, ask your landlord first if they’ll allow you to hang some pieces of art. Others may not like this idea since it involves hammering down some nails for the art pieces to hang on, damaging the property. They may allow it provided that the damage is going to be covered by your security deposit, which is no longer an inexpensive decision for you.

As a solution, avoid hanging wall art directly on the walls. Instead, display the art pieces on surfaces. Since you already have furniture in mind, try to walk around your property and see which type of art suits well with your furniture.

Still, some artworks are best if they’re displayed on the wall. In this case, opt for S-hooks and some decorative rope. You may also go for velcro or some removable wall hooks. This way, you can hang pieces of art without damaging the property.

5. Add Plants

Regardless if you’re starting from seeds or those that are already mature, giving the property some greens would surely beautify the space. Also, if you have friends and family members who have a wide selection of plants, you can ask from them, saving you money and allowing you to personalize your rental property.

Final Words: Check Your Terms

Do take note that you must review your terms. Doing so may give you an idea of what you can and can’t change in the property. If you violate your agreement, then it may cost you in the long run.

With that said, even if you’re living in a rental property, it doesn’t mean that you have lived in a space that’s too generic. In fact, with the tips mentioned above, you may be able to beautify and personalize a rental property.
