How Much Does it Cost to Put a Gate Around a House?

I bought a new house and need total construction cost of Gate around it OR want some improvements in already constructed Gate around your house. You are in the right place, and this article is for you.

These 2-3 minutes read will clear all your doubts regarding the cost of building a gate around your house to make it more beautiful and safer too. So, the cost of Gate construction depends mainly on four major things.

  • Gate Material Quality
  • Labor Cost
  • Manual or Automatic
  • Miscellaneous

Gate Material Quality

It is the primary aspect that decides the budget of the Gate you want to be installed around your house. The Gate may be of different material qualities like Iron, Aluminum, Steel or Wrought Iron, etc.

This will be done as per your choice, and you will choose the best material for better safety and reliability. According to the material, the cost would be like $400-$4500, which may differ as per the region and area you live in.

You may not prefer Iron as it will be rusted. No one wants to pay money again and again on what should have been in the right place already. You may choose better material like Wrought Iron or Aluminum that will bump up the cost than the most basic one, made of Iron.

Labor Cost

It is also the critical impacting factor. Labor will cost you $40-$70 per hour as per the work, and it also depends on the region where you live in. The most impacting factor of this category is the number of people required to complete the work, which is again proportional to the material of the Gate you use. Heavy or Low will decide the cost of how many workers you require to get it into place.

Manual or Automatic

Manual gates have been of many kinds, like Sliding Gates that are more expensive than the gates you open and shut like the regular ones. These gates come under the category of Manual Gates that you just open, enters in, and close on your own.

These would cost you $600-$1500 excluding designing and Labor. Other things included in it are the labor cost of $40-$70 and Hardware cost of $80. The total overall cost lies between $720-$1700. Manual Gates needs someone to open and close every time, so it is less prevalent in the US and UK.

The next advanced and best Fence Gates come into the picture are Automatic Gates. These gates give you complete peace of mind and are more reliable than Manual Gates. They are expensive than Manual ones, but they open and close on their own as per the command you give to them.

These gates cost you $600-$7000, and it needs some more cost to be installed other than Labor like Opener Motor and Sensors with Hardware. On calculating the full cost, they would cost you around $2000-$12000 that includes: Gate Material cost as mentioned above between $600-$7000, Labor cost $50-$80, Motor Opener cost $900-$4100, and Sensor System Hardware cost $500-$600.

Miscellaneous

This includes the expenses to carry something from the market, and in the case of Manual Gates, you need to get one from the market and carry on your own to the place to get it installed.

If the wires are lying outside or hanging, then it needs to be fixed first. This will cost you to hire a crew of dedicated teams to underground the wires for you before installing Gate.

While installation of Automatic Gate, there must be all connections from inside the home connected to Gate to operate it either with your smartphone or touch screen controller.

This will add to the total cost as to be done by the electricians or professional technicians. Other factors impacting the cost are:

  • Intercom: cost lies between $400-$2200
  • Remote Control System: cost lies between $900-5000
  • Ballard’s: cost lies between $4000-$6500

So, if we get a brief idea and conclude the discussion, then, the cost as per Gates are as follow:

  1. Manual Gate: $1800 approx.
  2. Automatic Gate: $4500 approx.

Disclaimer: The charges may vary as per the Material of the Gate and Area you live in.
