How to Make Your Sunroom Into Your Zen Room

0

Your home is supposed to be your happy place, but sometimes being around the mess and bustle of your house can leave you frazzled and drained. As often as not, the sunroom is just as disorganized as anywhere else in your home; just a place to accumulate spare pieces of patio furniture and a sickly plant or two.

However, with a little bit of effort, you can turn your sunroom into a zen room where you can relax and recharge. Here are some ideas for how to transform your sunroom into your zen room:

Take Control of the Temperature

Sunrooms usually don’t have as much insulation as the rest of the house, so using your home’s central air conditioning to provide temperature control for the sunroom is likely a waste of energy. However, by taking control of the temperature of your sunroom with a Wall AC Unit, you can conserve energy by not using the unit when you’re not using the room.

Being able to adjust the temperature to exactly what you want it to be is a huge advantage for your zen room. Want to do some hot yoga? Turn the thermostat up. Feel like cuddling with a good book? Crank it down. A Wall Air Conditioner can adjust the temperature of the room within minutes of being turned on and is not difficult to install.

Decorate With Only Things You Love

Everything your eye falls on in your zen room should delight you including the snow sculpture. Try not to choose decor that brings to mind a memory or causes an emotional reaction. You want your mind to be able to drift freely in your zen room. Decorations that bring particular thoughts to mind can get in the way.

Whatever decor you choose, plants are usually a good addition to a zen sunroom. Plants are soothing and relaxing, which is exactly what you’re going for. If you don’t have much of a green thumb, don’t feel guilty about rotating plants so that there are always healthy and happy plants in the room. It may be best to pick tough plants that can handle a bit of neglect and still look great if you’re struggling to keep plants alive and looking good.

Stay on Theme

A sunroom isn’t big enough for complex or merged themes. If there’s too much going on without a logical connection between items, it may feel disorganized.

Going for a traditional Eastern zen room? Pink bonsai or bamboo for your plants, a simple bamboo mat for the floor, and perhaps a few Eastern pieces of art for the wall.

Want a cozy chic relaxation room? Pick a color scheme and stick to it while filling the room with comfy furniture, plush rugs, and throw pillows. Whatever you want for your zen sunroom, make sure it gives you that impression the moment you walk in.

Engage Your Senses

The more of your senses are engaged by your zen sunroom, the more relaxation the room will be able to impart to you. Keep a speaker ready to play a particular soundtrack when you come in or have a fountain with trickling water.

Use incense, a steam vaporizer, candles, or another source of soothing smells. You can even brew a particular tea or have a snack that you associate with relaxation. The more you cue your senses in this way every time you relax in your zen room, the more you associate these signals with relaxation and the more effective they’ll be.

Keep it Pristine

Your sunroom won’t be a zen room for long if it’s cluttered with kid and pet toys and filled with extra furniture. Fight to keep your zen room ready for you to relax in.

Talk to your family about why it’s important for your zen room to remain ready for you. You could even go so far as to make the room off limits for kids and pets. Remember, you need this room as a place to relax and recharge. If it falls into the same disorder as the rest of the house, it won’t be able to provide this vital function for you.

Use it Regularly

Your zen sunroom won’t have any power to help you relax and take it easy unless you use it regularly. Use your zen room to reinvigorate yourself when you get stressed or tired.

Even five or ten minutes can make a huge difference to help you relax. Whether you want to read a book, practice some yoga, tend to your plants, or whatever else helps you relax, make time to do it in your zen sunroom every day if possible.

Enjoy Your Zen Sunroom

If your sunroom isn’t getting the kind of use it could be and you’d like somewhere to help you relax, turning your sunroom into a zen sunroom is the perfect solution. You may be amazed by how much you come to love the space once you can control the temperature, decorate it with the things you love, engage your senses, and make relaxation a priority in your life.
