Squirrels are beautiful creatures. Some people love to have squirrels as their pets, and some love to have them in their garden.

While loving squirrels, another important thing to take care of is what food you should give them to feed on and what should be avoided.

Junk Food

All over the world, everyone is a big fan of junk food nowadays. Everyone has a different body type, and according to them, they need nutrition and other essential energy boosters. 

Just like that, squirrels cannot digest junk food like Pizza, Snacks with salt as they make them more excited, just like excess sugar is not good for little children.

Squirrels are already hyper naturally, so the salt will increase more, which should not be done. So, avoid giving any junk food like pizza, burgers, or hot dogs, etc.

This is another thing that you should avoid giving to squirrels in full. Squirrels tend to eat and digest corn in small pieces. However, if you give them corn in full size, it will be a little dangerous. 

As squirrels have a habit of overeating so they may consume more corn, and this may lead to their death. Corns quickly become sour, and mold starts growing on them, so you need to make sure that the corn will be fresh to feed squirrels.  Sour and moldy corn will be poisonous to Squirrels.

Peanuts are another thing that you need to avoid in large quantities to feed squirrels. As the peanuts are nuts, however, this is not the actual reality. Peanuts are legumes in real life. So, in large quantities, they will not be good for the squirrels. 

However, if you think you should not give them peanuts in even small quantities, that is also not true. You can give them peanuts occasionally to change their diet and taste as well.

Pet food generally contains meat that we give to our dogs and cats. However, this meat food is not recommended to give to squirrels to feed them as it is not their natural diet. You should avoid any pet food to serve to squirrels to feed on.

Squirrels are vegetarian, so if they consume meat or high meat content in the pet food, they may even die of it. You can feed squirrels with nuts, fruits, and with vegetables available in your area.

Breakfast Cereals

Everyone has a different body, and everybody needs a different nutrition level to maintain and survive. The food that we eat should be according to the natural diet that our body needs. Cereals give us a good nutrition level, and it is good for our health too.

However, these will not do much in the case of squirrels as this is not a part of their natural diet. This will be a filler, and if you feed them with cereals daily, they may die of malnutrition.

You should feed squirrels with nuts, vegetables, and fruits as well; however, please make sure that you should take care of the above food option. You should avoid giving them. They may be even more dangerous than you think.
