Why Candles Have Become Such An Essential Component Of Home Décor

0

When browsing the internet for interior design ideas, it’s very likely that you’ve come across a variety of candles. Whether it’s in a lounge, a bedroom, a kitchen or a dining room; candles are often there as either a side or center piece. Why, then, have candles become such a staple in home décor?

For a long time, candles were used as a tool. When light wasn’t an available resource, candles were the only thing which could keep a home illuminated. They were, in many ways, the only way to function when the sun went down and the night crept in. Nowadays, however, they are virtually unneeded in modern homes. We haven’t let go, though. There is still something about the aura of candles which keeps us dedicated.

The Warmth They Bring Still Resonates

In a manner of speaking, candles have now become a prop in the atmosphere we wish to create. This is not least because of the fact candles are still a source of warmth, both physically and mentally. When you walk into your home, a collection of candles will not only warm the air around you, but the light they emit will give you something different to ordinary electric light. There is a deep orange glow which is mentally and emotionally soothing. A glow which breathes life into your home and illuminates its foundations in a way electric light cannot.

Candles Remain Symbolic

Another reason candles are so popular is because so many of us still revolve our home décor around our religion. Candles can be a subtle but beautiful symbol of faith. A table in a Jewish home can immediately express the virtues of the owners. Imagine the sterling silver shabbat candlesticks lining the center, an aroma of melting wax floating in the air and a relaxing flicker of light casting shadows on the walls. It is a beautiful scene which would be the heart of a home. A place guests would always want to come back to.

Candles Are A Mood Setter And A Natural Air Freshener

Not only do candles look authentic and beautiful, they are also a natural air freshener. These days, there are so many different scents candles can place into your home. These can be based around seasons, such as a light blossom smell for the summer or a warm cinnamon scent in the winter. In this way, the décor of homes can be altered just by creating a scent which complements the seasons all year round. Not only this, candles can also dictate the ambient mood which you would want inside your home or in an enclosed patio. After a hard day at work, it can be an immediate relaxation tool to come back to a collection of candles in the room you want to unwind in. Mentally, they are a way to calm nerves and mediate the senses. A piece of home décor which not only elevates the house they are inside, but also helps the house owner to sit back and feel comfortable in the place they have created.
